Linda Baxter, RN, PhD, PMHNP-BC, ANP-BC is a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner with extensive experience in providing support, treatment, and medication management for adults who have a wide range of mental health disorders. She obtained a Master’s Degree, Adult Nurse Practitioner certificate, and PhD in Nursing from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). For many years, she worked as an Adult Nurse Practitioner in primary care, internal medicine, and women’s health.
During that time, she experienced an increasing interest and reward in working with individuals who were also struggling with mental health conditions and significant stress. As a result, Dr. Baxter obtained a Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse Practitioner specialty certification from the University of Virginia. She has since worked with clients in mental health private practice for the past (almost) two decades. She also has experience in caring for diverse populations, including individuals with disabilities and members of the LGBTQ and transgender populations. Dr. Baxter is also licensed to practice as an independent Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner in VA.
Dr. Baxter has been a strong advocate for the disability and mental health community. She has additional expertise in issues related to chronic illness and disability, with particular interest in caregiver issues, including caregiver grief, stress, and self-care. She was a member of the Chesterfield County Community Services Board (CSB) for 9 years and was recognized and honored for her advocacy and support with the Chesterfield CSB Service Partnership Award. Also, Dr. Baxter was honored with the Outstanding Nurse Service Award from the VCU Nursing Alumni Association.
Dr. Baxter continues to find great reward in supporting each individual on his/her journey toward optimal quality of life. She is committed to a holistic practice philosophy that emphasizes the integrative principles of mind-body-spirit care. She feels that balance and health occur with the integration of multiple approaches, including but not limited to, medication, self-care/self-nurturing activities, creative expression, physical health practices, stress management, and therapeutic counseling. Dr. Baxter is dedicated to providing respectful, compassionate, and comprehensive care based on each individual’s unique needs and experiences.
For her own mental health, Dr. Baxter enjoys creating art through photography, treasure-hunting on the beach, reading, and spending time with family and friends.
