John Lee, MD

Dr. Lee strives to take care of the whole person. He has carried this approach throughout his training, starting with medical school at the Medical College of Virginia and finishing with his residency and fellowship in adult, child and adolescent psychiatry at the University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio and U.S. Air Force Wilford Hall Medical Center Combined Residency Training program in 2001. Since his return home, he continued his growth through his diverse work experiences in inpatient and outpatient, consult-liaison, community service board, group homes, integration work, nurse practitioner collaboration, psychotherapy supervision, and other teaching, administrative, and leadership positions. Whether it be biological, psychological, or social, the integrative model of care is a cornerstone to his approach. He strives to truly listen and get to know those who have entrusted themselves into his care. While diagnoses are important, he does not feel they define a person. While medications may be used, he does not believe they dictate or limit a person’s choice. Dr. Lee believes that each person is unique, that they can grow and become stronger from their experiences. He believes in the importance of developing a trusting relationship with his patients, not dictating care but rather helping them to develop their own paths forward, healing the mind and the body and the spirit. Dr. Lee is excited to be a part of the Spectrum family as the new Director of Psychiatric Services. He values Spectrum’s culture, treatment approach, dedication to quality care, and the collaborative spirit of an interdisciplinary practice.
