Amber N. Tate, PMHNP-BC, PMH-C

Amber is a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner licensed to treat and prescribe psychiatric medications for children, adolescents, and adults.  She has over 10 years experience in mental health care. She obtained a Bachelor of Science degree with a concentration in nursing from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2012 and a Master of Science with a clinical concentration of Family Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner degree from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2016.

While completing her undergraduate nursing degree and upon graduation, Amber worked at the Virginia Treatment Center for Children. During this time, she developed skills in collaborative problem solving and trauma informed care while working with a wide range of mental illnesses. Additionally, she worked in the Pediatric Emergency Room at VCU Health System for 5 years, where she educated staff on mental illnesses and advocated for psychiatric patients during their time in the ER. She has worked as a psychiatric nurse practitioner for 6 years.

Amber feels comfortable working with all ages and has experience treating a variety of clinical issues, such as depression, anxiety, PTSD, ADHD, and bipolar disorder. She is also experienced and holds a certification specific to providing psychiatric services for perinatal mood disorders.

As a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner, Amber believes prescribing is just one component of a successful treatment plan and will actively encourage therapy, good self-care practices, and diligent follow up on medical concerns. Amber will model healthy communication practices and boundaries.

Amber’s interests include traveling, spending time outside (and on the couch) with her dogs, baking, reading, and spending time with friends and family.
